What do you think of this, Police: Boys Rip Classmates’ Clothes Off, Snap Photos. I’ll juxtapose that with this, Societies worse off ‘when they have God on their side’,

RELIGIOUS belief can cause damage to a society, contributing towards high murder rates, abortion, sexual promiscuity and suicide, according to research published today.

According to the study, belief in and worship of God are not only unnecessary for a healthy society but may actually contribute to social problems.
The study counters the view of believers that religion is necessary to provide the moral and ethical foundations of a healthy society.

It compares the social peformance of relatively secular countries, such as Britain, with the US, where the majority believes in a creator rather than the theory of evolution. Many conservative evangelicals in the US consider Darwinism to be a social evil, believing that it inspires atheism and amorality.

Many liberal Christians and believers of other faiths hold that religious belief is socially beneficial, believing that it helps to lower rates of violent crime, murder, suicide, sexual promiscuity and abortion. The benefits of religious belief to a society have been described as its “spiritual capital”. But the study claims that the devotion of many in the US may actually contribute to its ills.

The conclusion of the article is this, “The widely held fear that a Godless citizenry must experience societal disaster is therefore refuted.” So who said that? Reading the piece, which only cites where the study is to be found, it seems to me a non sequitir. I guess I’ll need to read the study. It seems to me, the fact that in a society that purports to be religious, and the fact that people do terrible things does not negate the value of their religion. I guess I could safely assume the person(s) who did the study only considered Christianity. I guess you could ask the same about Islam. There are many questions to ask. First, what was the level of religious belief and observance of the perpetrators? But, you could say; how in such a religious society could such things happen? How has the religious belief failed to keep such things from happening? Precisely. So ask it about Islam. Well, you now can venture into the question of, if there was a G-d, how could He allow such things to happen? It seems to me, that if the article is accurate, the person who did the study proved the point he sought to prove. What disturbs me is that the article’s writer offers so little in the way of explaining the study and really provides so little information and context. The questions to be asked are numerous. Which brings me back to the first article. Do you think religion actually influences any part of these boys lives? Notwithstanding whatever their mothers believe? My 1st assumption is that their fathers are not in their lives. If that is the case, maybe the case could be made that when people don’t follow the dictats of their religion, the std’s, violence etc is the result. After all, whatever their belief, it likely believes in the involvement of both mother and father and a family unit, so to speak What a tangled web. Stuperficial studies like this are useless, pointless and insulting, at least to me. Assuming that is what the study actually studied and found. Oh well.
